Sydney Symphony - Jupiter and Alpine Symphonies

Sydney Symphony - Jupiter and Alpine Symphonies

Discover why the critics say that ‘under Dutoit, the Sydney Symphony plays at its most refined’. Mozart’s towering final symphony (composed 3 years before his death, when Mozart was broke and in debt) is named after the king of the gods – and no wonder, it blends Olympian intellect with muscular power. However, this god is good-humoured and radiant, exuberant and introspective. A childhood day on a mountain inspired Richard Strauss to create his grandest tone poem, scored for over 120 instruments; what he called ‘an adoration of eternal glorious nature’.
