Wouter "Wally" De Backer, known professionally by his stage name Gotye (pronounced /ˈgauthier/gaultier/), is a Belgian-Australian multi-instrumental musician and singer-songwriter. He has released three studio albums independently and one remix album featuring remixes of tracks from his first two albums. De Backer is also one-third of Melbourne indie-pop band The Basics, who have independently released three studio albums and numerous other titles since 2002.

In 2011 Gotye became a household name when his single “Somebody That I Used To Know” featuring Kimbra became a smash hit. The single entered the charts at number 1 and has recently won Gotye 6 ARIA awards.
